Courchevel is home to the world’s most expensive ski resort hotel

If you are planning a last minute ski trip to the Alps, and are looking for some good cheap accommodation where you and your pals can crash, then this place is most probably is not for you. However if you are worth more money than The Queen and own a folly then you might just be able to afford a few nights in Les Suites de la Potinière in Courchevel.

Pricey
After luxury-hotels.com  carried out a survey, they discovered that this hotel in the French Alps is the world’s most expensive in any ski resort. Courhcevel is well known for its high class clientele which includes members of the British and Saudi royal families, so it is no surprise that the most expensive hotel of its kind can be found there.

Luxury-Hotels.com made this revelation after comparing the rates for a standard double room at ski resorts worldwide. The main ski season of 2012 served as the time-frame basis for the survey. Only those luxury hotels that are located inside ski resorts were included in the ranking.

So, the big question is, how much does a night at Les Suites de la Potinière cost? And I can tell you the answer to that question is; £1237. Oh and breakfast is an extra 30 euros or £25. I might be a little bit tempted to smuggle a box of Frosties in there.

I mean, for £1237 you could buy two Burton Custom X snowboards and still have enough cash left over to spend the week in a cheap hostel.

So what does this hotel actually have to offer? Well, it does have luxury suites and a great spa, oh, and a very expensive finger food menu. And the 15-suite establishment promotes its "exclusivity and privacy."

However, if Les Suites de la Potinière is slightly out of your price range, you could always head over to the second most expensive ski resort hotel in the world. In second place is the the Aurelio Lech in Lech-Arlberg, Austria, at a mere £900 a night, which is followed by the Carlton Hotel in St. Moritz, Switzerland (£794 a night).

Or, you pack all of your gear into the Ford Cortina; get a packet of wine gums; make the 25 hour drive to the Alps listening to the same four tapes (Freddie Mercury, Best of the 80s, Best of the 80s part 2 and Fleetwood Mac) over and over; and then crash in a hostel for around £30 a night. It’s up to you.
