Zoe Gillings targets podium place at next Snowboarding World CupBritish snowboarding number one Zoe Gillings finished 10th in the United States World Cup and is hoping for a podium at the next one, which is in Austria.

January 10th
According to the BBC , Gillings qualified ninth out of 30 competitors to progress to the finals and then she finished third in her heat, before crashing out of her semi final after catching an edge.

She told the BBC: "I'm obviously disappointed that I didn't bring home a medal but I had a solid competition.”

"The training I have been doing over the summer has paid off and I know I just made a silly mistake in the semi-final race. I'm really looking forward to the next World Cup in Badgastein."

Earlier this year, Gillings was invited to train with the Dutch national squad in Austria in preparation for the new season.

She will now target the next world Cup competition in Badgastein on 10 January.

The World Cup series includes six rounds; one in the United States, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and two in Canada.

Last season Gillings finished well with a series of great results, including a World Cup podium in Switzerland and she also finished seventh at the World Championships in Spain. She also finished the season ranked tenth in the world.

The format for the World Cup event has taken a dramatic change this year where 24 athletes now qualify for the heats instead of 16, and each heat now has six athletes racing in it instead of four.
