26 September 2011 12:41

Founder of Burton Snowbaords diagnosed with cancer Jake Burton, the man responsible for world famous Burton Snowboards, announced last week that he had been diagnosed with cancer.

World's largest snowboard manufacturer
The 57-year-old revealed the news via a company memo to the Burton family worldwide. It read: "The bad news is that I have cancer. The good news is that it is as curable as it gets. What I have is called Seminoma, also known as Testicular Cancer (think Lance Armstrong). I have three months of chemo ahead with the possibility of surgery along the way."

The snowboarding world has already sent out thousands of messages of support for Burton, who is most probably one of the most influential men in the industry.

Jake has already begun to undergo chemotherapy and said in his statement that he did not feel too upset about his condition. He went on to thanks the people around him for the fact that he wasn’t too scared and sounded optimistic about his road to recovery.

He has been making snowboards for nearly 40 years and he built the first snowboard factory the world had ever seen.

Burton is now the largest snowboard manufacturer in the world and has 40% of the world snowboard market.

After receiving plenty of support from people across the globe, Jake responded on Twitter saying, "thanks everyone for the good wishes and support".

We, at Natives, were sad to hear of Jake’s condition, but are glad that he seems optimistic and that his disease is very curable.
