Summer ski season in full swing in Les Deux Alpes
Europe's largest skiable glacier opened for its summer season on 18th June this year and the slopes and terrain park remain open until late August. Now, with plans in place to upgrade a chairlift and the snowmaking facilities, 2011 is set to be another great winter season in the French resort.
New 6 Seater Chairlift
Construction crews are working away on improvements to the lift system and snowmaking facilities. Work commences on 3rd December 2011 and will go through until the 28th April 2012. The main change is that the old 'Diable' lift is being replaced by a modern six seater chairlift. This brand, spanking new ride more than doubvles the passenger capacity of the current lift which could only carry 1000 skiers an hour anyway. This new one is capable of carrying 2200 people per hour so less queueing and more riding!
Also, impovements to snowmakers
In addition to the new chairlift, the resort is investing in new snowmaking equipment on the 'Chemin des Demoiselles' slope which will ensure that the return run to the resort for beginners is open all season long and also improves the quality of snow to the bottom of the Diable slope.
