A legendary skiier The pair were riding together in the South Chute area when Pierre triggered an avalanche which carried him over the edge of a cliff.
The area where they were snowboarding was not, and still isn’t, officially open yet for skiers and snowboarders.
According to the Utah Avalance Centre’s (UAC) report Pierre, 38, “was carried hundreds of feet through steep rocky terrain and reportedly went over a small cliff band and came to a stop only partially buried.”
Pierre was a legendary skier and held the record for the highest cliff jump in 2006 when he dropped 245 vertical feet.
The terrain summary from the UAC official preliminary report said: “This was in steep northwest facing terrain, terrain that no doubt held old rotten snow from October. The investigation will show more on Monday.”
