Snowboarder killed after Mt Hutt fall

Mt HuttA snowboarder has died after suffering fatal injuries following a fall at the Mt Hutt snow area.





Snowboard tragedy

A man, believed to be in his thirties, died from his injuries at Christchurch Hospital on Friday.

Reports suggest the man was on his first run of the day alongside two friends when he caught an edge whilst traversing the run.

The man apparantly than fell 200m below the bottom of the chairlift before landing on rocky outcrop. He was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Condolences

The manager of the Mt Hutt Ski Area, Dave Wilson has extended his deepest condolences to the snowboarder's friends and family, and has promised to examine the incident closely:

"We will be conducting a full internal investigation into this incident and will work fully with any external investigation," he said.

"This has hit our patrollers very hard and the entire management and staff at Mt Hutt are devastated, to say the least."
