The incident reportedly happened at some point last week between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, with vandals causing damage to fencing and padded mats on the artificial ski slope.

Central Scotland Police have now asked anyone with information about the crime to come forward, stressing the fact vandalism presents a risk to skiier safety.

Incident reaction

A spokesman for Clackmannshire council, which is tasked with running the centre, commented:

"The fence had only just been replaced after the fire, and every time something like this happens it comes at great cost to the ski centre."

Councillor Sam Ovens was also quick to stress the damaging impact of the vandalism in the area:

"The recent vandalism to Firpark Ski Centre has caused extensive damage. This sort of problem may be seen as low-level crime, but it is the sort of anti-social behaviour that brings an area down.

"We are working with the police to try and track down the culprits having recently upgraded the CCTV at the Centre."
