How to...lay the breakfast table
You've landed your dream job in the Alps and you're getting the hang of cooking in your chalet, but you're keen to make a good impression on your first set of guests. Breakfast on the first day is a great occasion to impress, especially if guests arrived late the night before, so follow our guide for getting it right.
What's expected at breakfast will depend on the company you're working for, but a basic table should include the following:
- Jug of milk
- Sugar bowl
- Tea cups/mugs
- Tea spoons
- Fruit
- Yogurts
- Table setting of knife and desert spoon, placed to the right of the place setting, knife on the inside, spoon outside
- Plate
- Jams/marmalade
- Butter
- Bread basket
- Jug of hot water
- Cereals
The norm for breakfast is that it's a help-yourself meal, if your company offers a continental breakfast. Some companies will offer a daily hot option, which you will be expected to cook to order as the guests arrive at the table.
